Dear Families,

I am pleased to announce that the Blaine Field project is now complete–thank you to our students, staff and families for their patience during construction! It has been so wonderful to see our students and community enjoy this shared space once again.  We are incredibly grateful to the Chicago Cubs, Friends of Blaine and CPS for their generous support in funding this project.

Since the field is now accessible, we will resume regular entry and dismissal procedures.  Blaine staff members will be present to supervise students in Grades 1-8 on the field starting at 7:30 a.m.; Kindergarten students should report to the playground on the corner of Janssen and Grace at 7:45 a.m.  Breakfast is available to students in Grades 1-8 starting at 7:30 a.m. in the lunchroom–participating students should enter through Door 4 on Southport.

When the bell rings at 7:55 a.m., students should quietly enter the building via their designated doors:

  • Kindergarten students will be picked up by homeroom teachers on their playground (Doors 7 and 8).
  • Pre-Kindergarten students will be greeted and picked up at the Annex entry (Door 6).
  • All students in first through eighth grade should enter through Door 3 (Southport) or Door 1 (Main Entrance on Grace).
  • All visitors are reminded to enter the building through Door 1 on Grace Street at all times and to report to the main office for assistance.

At dismissal, students in grades Pre-Kindergarten – 3rd are released to parents or guardians, while students in grades 4th – 8th self-dismiss.

Please see below for information regarding dismissal exits by grade level:

  • Pre-Kindergarten:  Door 6
  • Kindergarten:  Door 7 and 8
  • First:  Door 1
  • Second:  Door 2
  • Third/Fourth:  Door 4
  • 5th-8th:  Door 3

Thanks to all for your support in ensuring student arrival and dismissal procedures are safe and orderly.  I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Ms. Brito

Did you know that each year we rely on mandatory student fees to cover critical needs at Blaine? From the latest curriculum and much needed supplies to sports programs and critical recess supervision –student fees support our entire student body throughout the year.   Thank you to those who have already paid.

There are 2 convenient ways to pay:
1. Click here to pay online by selecting the Student Fees to pay the $250.
2. Submit your check (payable to James G. Blaine Elementary) to the main office along with the student fee form found on the Blaine website.

Your $250 per student tax-deductible payment is PAST DUE.

Remember, payment of fees will be a prerequisite for participation in most non-classroom programming. For additional information, including exemptions and waivers, please see below and visit this Student Fees Page on the Blaine website.

Thank you,
Your Local School Council

*Waivers/Payment Plans – All CPS families must complete a Family Income Information Form (FIIF) which will be distributed during the first week of school. If you are unable to afford the fee, completion of this form is the first step toward receiving a waiver. Under certain circumstances we are able to offer a payment plan, please contact the main office to discuss possible options.

*Exemptions/Fee Coverage – If you are contributing the full $1,400 ask to the KFund, you will not be expected to pay this student fee for your kindergartener. Fees paid for 8th grade students will cover the $70 graduation expense typically passed along to parents later in the year.

Blaine will be hosting a High School Application Information Night on Wednesday, October 17th from 6:00-7:00 p.m. All 7th and 8th grade students and families are welcome to attend to learn more about the high school application process and the new GoCPS online application system. Parent volunteers play an important role at Blaine and contribute to our ongoing success.  We encourage parents to continue their support of our school by being an active participant in their child’s education and safety and we thank those parents who regularly volunteer. We absolutely need parent support through volunteering to maintain the experience that Blaine students have become accustomed to – and deserve.

In order to be considered as a Blaine volunteer, parents must complete the on-line application and in most cases, submit to a TB test and background check through fingerprinting.  The process takes a couple of weeks but helps ensure that all adults who interact with students have been held to the highest level of scrutiny, providing safety and security for all.

Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the year.  Right now, we especially need help in the following areas:

Kiss & Go / Parent Patrol

7:40-8:05am – Assistance is needed every day that school is in session

For more information or to sign up please email teolsen@cps.ed

Lunchroom/ Recess Assistance

10:15-12:15pm – Assistance is needed every day that school is in session.

For more information or to sign up please email

Classroom Assistance

Varies – Room Parents and Teachers determine based on current class needs.

For more information or to sign up please contact your child’s teacher or Room Parent.

With Walk-A-Thon, Blaine Flix, and the Book Fair all coming up within the next thirty days, there will be many more opportunities to help. Please consider volunteering this year.  Your help makes a world of difference.
